We received another call from Akini and set off on the plane to Kenya. Once we arrived to worked as a team to build new houses and a school. We were very mindful of keeping ourselves safe from the sun (PSHE/PSED 6.12.22) and keeping safe from wild animals.
We quickly created a large, strong and sturdy fence to keep animals away from the new buildings. We also came up with building shelters on the playground so children can play in the shade.

We received a call from building project manager Akini who was working in Kenya to rebuild a school and houses that had been knocked down by wild African animals– much like the animals we read about in the story Handa’s Surprise.
These wild animals had caused devastating destruction of the local school and surrounding homes. As we had so much knowledge on Kenya, Akini rang us to ask for help. We soon set off making lists of building materials we would need and personal items would need – a lot of sun cream, sun hats, water, a torch, ladder etc. We planned our buildings on a small scale and got our passports ready for the next available flight to Kenya. |
